What Is GMP? Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) covers the minimum requirements that guarantee a manufacturer is producing food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical products and cosmetics at high quality and within legal conditions. GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice. GMP standards are also part of many national regulations. Each country has set GMP rules that match its own framework.

GMP Certificate. Certification is issued after a review of all activities. Certification is renewed yearly, and audit and surveillance take place every year.

Legal Status in Turkey. In Turkey, GMP standards are required in ministry regulations and inspections covering pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics and medical products.

Core GMP Rules. Hygiene: production areas are clean and hygienic. Cross-contamination: measures are taken to prevent contamination during production. Production conditions: production processes are defined clearly. Documentation: instructions and procedures are written in clear, plain language (see Good Documentation Practices). Labelling: product labelling procedure and instructions. Training: staff training and records. Records: records of procedures, instructions and deviations are kept. Distribution: distribution procedure and records.

Good Manufacturing Practice recommends traceability across every stage from production to the final product reaching the consumer.

GMP rules are not a heavy procedural burden; on the contrary, they cover legal processes that already need to be followed. In that sense, "GMP is a legal requirement."
