Toy Testing and CE Marking

Services in this category ▼

The safety and security of children is one of the most important issues for every parent. A safe home and environment should be created for children. Wherever children's products are used, they must be safe and free from harm to the child. The safety of products children use for play deserves close attention.

With Eurocert testing, children's products are tested with design, safety, and quality in mind.

For products designed for children under 14, the toy safety requirements are set out in the Toy Safety Directive. Toy Directive 88/378/EC identifies these six hazard areas:

  1. Physical characteristics
  2. Flammability characteristics
  3. Chemical characteristics
  4. Electrical characteristics
  5. Hygiene
  6. Radioactivity

For toys to enter the European market, the product must be tested and proven across these six areas.

Toy Directive Requirements

  • Safety of the physical and chemical content of the toy
  • CE marking on the toy
  • Manufacturer information on the label

Safety testing must take place in laboratories accredited to ISO 17025. Safety testing standards:

  • EN 71-1
  • EN 71-2
  • EN 71-3
  • EN 71-9
