GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) Testing
GMO stands for genetically modified organism, an organism whose DNA has been altered. Foods produced from or containing GMOs are called genetically modified foods. Genetic modification works by transferring a characteristic from one species to another.
The consumption of genetically modified foods has raised concerns for consumers, so GMO testing is used to detect whether foods have been genetically modified. GMO testing is used to assess whether food products are suitable for consumption, and it also makes it easier for non-GMO products to trade safely in countries that require it.
The GMO test system is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) process, with controls that screen out false positives and false negatives.
